One of Nat 'King' Cole's favourite songs, "Too Young" was written in 1951 by Sidney Lippman and Sylvia Dee.
Nat released his version of it in February of that year, achieveing and maintining the #1 spot for 5 weeks and his version became the Billboard #1 song of 1951. A simple song, in terms of lyrics, it contains a short yet powerful message which is conveyed and driven home by the strong musical accompanyment in the Nat 'King' Cole version. This, along with Mona Lisa, is one of my favourite Nat 'King' Cole songs to cover. It ranks in my all-time top 5 songs too as I quite like the opportunity for an extended fermata at the end of the second verse. It's one of the longer notes I hold and requires quite a degree of vocal and breath control 🗣 Too Young has become quite a popular choice for songs at weddings, particularly amongst yong newlyweds for their first dance, as well as Golden and Diamond Wedding Anniversaries. |

Too Young Song Lyrics
They tried to tell us we're too young,
Too young to really be in love. They say that love's a word, a word we've only heard, But can't begin to know th emeaning of. And yet, we're not too oung to know, this love will last, though years may go And then one day, they may recall, We we're not too young at all. Musical Interude And yet, we're not too oung to know, this love will last, though years may go And then one day, they may recall, We we're not too young at all. |
